Culinary Buzz

Spaniards are being offered insect-based foodstuffs, including spicy chilli buffalo worms and Jimini's crunchy crickets for the Disney fans. Whether entomophagy will catch on in Europe remains to be seen, but it would certainly be unfortunate if Britain's approaching independence from the ghastly Euro-wogs were to vitiate the nation's chances of finally finding a use for Michael Gove. No-one has yet proposed that our own swarming cockroaches might make some modest restitution by having their children served up as refugee roasts; but given that many ministers of the Crown probably spent their childhoods pulling the wings off flies, such healthy developments can only be a matter of time.

    A modest proposal.

I actually think eating insects is a good idea — apparently bugs convey various health benefits, and are cheap & ecologically feasible to produce on the kind of scale that feeds entire countries.

I ain't eatin no bbq worms, tho.

A powdered worm-sourced french vanilla protein powder, however? No problem.
People need to think outside the terrarium.
(An extremely terrible joke, and I apologize.)

If there were any rule against bad jokes in this humble corner of the internet, I'd have to swat pretty much everyone except myself.

There's a touching optimism to these scientific projections based on present trends continuing until 2050, when unknown numbers of the potential nine billion will have been drowned, cooked, starved or liberally-interventionised, and the middle classes' demand for protein will most likely have been neutralised by abolishing the middle classes in favour of a good sharp distinction between suits and serfs.
